Dr Halim Elsherif is a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist with more than 20 years of postgraduate experience in digestive and liver health. Originally from Egypt, he has trained and practised across Japan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt, giving him extensive international experience in managing a wide range of gastrointestinal and hepatology conditions.
Dr Elsherif completed his Doctorate Fellowship at Kyoto University Hospital in Japan, where he undertook advanced training in gastroenterology and hepatology. He later held senior consultant and leadership roles throughout the Middle East, including Head of Unit at Dr Samir Abbas Hospital, Head of Endoscopy at Jeddah National Hospital and Head of the Endoscopy Unit and Chairman of the Scientific Committee at Dr Bakhash Hospital. Working in high‑volume hospitals, he oversaw endoscopy services, supported clinical governance and helped develop modern, evidence‑based gastroenterology departments.
After relocating to Australia, Dr Elsherif worked at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth and the Royal Hobart Hospital in Tasmania before settling in Bunbury with his family. He has since played a key role in establishing the first specialist gastroenterology service in the South West. He now consults at South West Colorectal Surgery, providing comprehensive care for patients with gastrointestinal and liver conditions. His approach emphasises clear communication, collaborative care and evidence‑based treatment.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Elsherif has been actively involved in medical education, research and quality improvement initiatives. He has supervised academic projects, chaired scientific committees and taught both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. His research interests include biomarkers for gemcitabine chemotherapy in pancreatic cancer, and he continues to participate in ongoing professional development through national and international conferences.
