Patient Checklist for Minor Surgery
In the lead-up to your surgery, follow this simple checklist to help ease your fears or concerns and best prepare you for your hospital visit:
- Check time, date and address for Bunbury Day Hospital
- Arrange a support person to escort you from the hospital to home and ideally remain with you for the first 24 hours after surgery
- Follow fasting instructions given by your specialist
- Get a good night’s sleep
- Shower or bathe, wash your hair and remove makeup, jewellery, body piercings and nail polish
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing to hospital and flat or low-heeled shoes
- Provide us with your medication history, especially if you’re taking Aspirin, Astrix, Cardiprin, Warfarin, Plavix, Iscover, Assasantin, Dipyridamole, or any other blood thinner.
What to Bring to Hospital
- Referral Letter (if applicable)
- Procedure consent forms (if given to you by your doctor)
- Medicare card, health fund details and pension/DVA cards
- Relevant x-rays, pathology, cardiology reports or other medical reports
- Medications to be taken during your time with us (eg. insulin, asthma puffer, eye drops)
- Hearing aids (if applicable)
- Prescription glasses (disposable contact lenses must be removed before your procedure)
- Preferred payment method
- Walking aids (if applicable)
Please Do Not Bring
- Do not wear contact lenses (if they are the type that requires removal at night time)
- Leave jewellery and valuables at home (wedding band is permitted)

Prepare For When you Arrive Home Following Surgery
- Make sure you have any necessary pain relief on hand
- Ensure you have a support person staying with you overnight
- Be prepared to have some time off work. Notify our hospital if you require a medical certificate. We will ensure your surgeon completes one for you.
